POOR PEDIATRICS PRACTICE.


Medical experts have advised Nigerians to exercise caution at all time when carrying or handling a growing child to avoid any injury or accident especially on the bones of young children.

In a monthly seminar organized by the Institute of Child Health, University of Benin~ which held in September at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital- UBTH, the resource person a consultant and Orthopaedic Surgeon, UBTH, Dr. Louis~West Osemwegie said the seminar was meant to enlighten the public on the peculiarity of Pediatric’s musculoskeletal system which has a unique structural and functional make~up that must be taken into consideration in the management of musculoskeletal trauma.
Dr. Osemwegie advised children, parents and guardians for caution especially when children engage in physical activities incase of any injuries and seek the attention of qualified medical experts.

The Director of the Institute of Child Health UNIBEN/UBTH, said considering the fact that children are tender and prone to injuries with spontaneous healing, does not need any manipulations but requires the expertise of an Orthopeadic surgeon.

Some participants who benefited immensely from the seminar which include Messr Aisosa and David Gbenedio said the habit of throwing and swinging of  young ones is quite common in our homes and communities, they therefore admonished  parents and guardians to be mindful of the extent they handle kids to avert any form of trauma or bodily accident. 

Medical Doctors, nurses, students and a handful of personalities from the academia were in attendance. The topic of the seminar was titled: Muscuskeletal Trauma in Children and Adolescent.
