MINISTRY OF WORKS/ EDO LEAGUE.

The Edo Unity League, EUL, has sent a highly worded petition to the Minister of Works Mr Mike Onomlemen over a looming threat to breakdown of law and order, which could negatively impact on the construction works of the Benin-Abuja road project, if   the Management of the Reynolds Construction Company – Ofosu/Benin project sites is not called to order.

In the petition titled a case of flagrant disdain to a Memorandum of Understanding by RCC, and a deliberate attempt at provoking  the people’s hostilities against Benin-Abuja construction works and signed by the Vice Chairman, Board of Trustees, Architect  Osagioduwa Kelly Obamogie, the EUL alleges that the Management of RCC has decided to obliterate the Indigenous Employment Quota of the Federal Republic of Nigeria  as it relates to employment of Edo state indigenes on casual and management staff and the Local Content mantra of President Goodluck Jonathan.
The Edo Unity League also observed that RCC is fond of boasting of   association with their National and International trustees as a basis for their disrespect to the common tenets of corporate social-responsibilities which the body finds  a betrayal of Mr. President’s transformation agenda
The league says this attitude if not checked will lead to  outburst and exuberance of Edo youths, who are being deprived of daily casual jobs and local materials supplies.
MEAN WHILE,  The Edo Unity League notes that  although they have no written document to support the well-founded speculation that the federal Ministry of Works  Ministry is aiding and abetting RCC to continually inflicting   divide-and-rule tendencies on their host communities, the minister’s   dispassionate response to the  open letter  by investigating the propriety and substance of the  petition   will   expunge the thoughts while upholding  the Peoples faith on Mr. President’s unwavering commitment to justice and equity.
The body recalled that the memorandum of understanding struck between the Management of RCC and the trustees of the Benin Development Union , BDU, in Lagos on May 29th and 30th, 2013 during a massive sack of youths and minor works contract withdrawal by the RCC against Benin/Ofosu community members, was based on Corporate Social Responsibly, CSR, act.
The act  empowers organizations to recruit or engage members of host communities in their daily or periodic operations geared towards maintaining mutual peace and understanding, increased productivity of host community members and firms, sustainable and meaningful development of the areas, socio-economic empowerment of the youths and overall human capital development of the citizenry or host communities members.
Copies of the petition were sent to amongst others RCC,  His Royal Majesty – Oba Erediauwa, Oba of Benin,  Governor of Edo State Mr Adams Oshiomhole , Public Complaints Commission, Association of Enigies of Edo South and the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Edo State chapter
