Members of civil society
groups under the auspices of Talakawa’s Parliament on Thursday handed out red
card to twenty four Edo lawmakers who have been factionalized across party
lines.
The crisis rocking the assembly degenerated fortnight ago when a member representing Etsako West Constituency one, Abdulrazak Momoh was beaten black and blue by unknown gunmen at the legislator’s quarters.
As if that was not enough, few days after, the legislator’s quarters was attacked leaving cars and buildings worth millions of naira damaged.
The activists who carried different placards chanted solidarity songs through major streets of Benin.
They were at the palace of the Oba of Benin, Omo N’ Edo Nku Akpolokpolo.
The protesters reminded the assemblymen that lawmaking is constitutional responsibilities and onus of making laws for peace, order and good governance.
They said those functions have eroded the 24 legislators. They also asked the electorate to shun their reelection bids to avoid the ongoing imbroglio in the next dispensation.
The civil society members later took the protest to NUJ secretariat, Edo State Council.
